Voyagers Jewelry Tip of the Month
Green is the color most found in nature and is considered a calming color for today’s hectic schedules. Emerald, the birthstone for May, is a beautiful, luminous gemstone of medium to deep green .
Emerald has one of the longest histories for gemstones and the first known mines were in southern Egypt from before 330BC. Today most Emerald’s are mined in Columbia, Brazil and Zambia.
The folklore for Emeralds has long history itself, Egyptians felt it stood for fertility, in the 18th century it was said to be used as an antidote for poisons…today, it stands for love, good fortune and youth.
In contrast to some other gemstones, Emeralds are usually full of inclusions. These inclusions are generally considered a negative characteristic for other gemstones; however, in an Emerald, they are part of its character and let you know it is genuine compared to synthetics and imitations.

Genuine Chatham lab created emeralds are real emeralds. They are not fakes, faux or imitation gemstones. The natural processes of nature were recreated in the Chatham Research Labs in order to create these synthetic emeralds. These Chatham emeralds have the same optical and chemical properties of the natural gems and they are composed of the same natural elements. All emeralds have telltale inclusions locked in each stone. Only the trained eye of a gemologist can distinguish the subtle variations between a Chatham Created Emerald and one grown naturally in the earth.
