What quality diamond should you buy? Beautiful diamonds are available
to fit most budgets. Diamond grades are based mostly on rarity factors –
the more exceptional the diamond the higher the price. The precise
criteria for evaluating the quality of a diamond is commonly known as
The Four Cs – cut, color, clarity, and carat weight.
Of all the 4 Cs, cut is a beauty factor and its quality can affect the
price by as much as 50% or more. It isn’t just the shape of the cut –
from the popular princess (square), round, emerald or oval, but also the
expertise and skill of
the cutter to be able to place those tiny facets on a diamond to create
that wonderful sparkle.
Gem-quality diamonds occur in many hues. Colorless diamonds are the
rarest. Other natural colors are known as fancy; green, pink, blue,
red, or brown and their color grading is unique.
Diamonds can have internal characteristics known as
inclusions or external
characteristics known as
blemishes. Diamonds without inclusions or blemishes are
rare; however, and most characteristics can only be seen with

After cleaning, we
will check for any missing stones; inspect each stone for
tightness; and look for chips, nicks and breakage.
Prongs, shanks and mountings will be inspected for wear and cracks.
If repairs are needed, we will make suggestions and discuss possible
options with you.
