GARNET
The birthstone for the month of January
Garnets
are a group of closely related gemstones; differently colored minerals with
similar chemical composition. Garnets come in a rainbow of
colors; some even have a natural color-change phenomena.
The four main garnet groups:
Rhodolite Garnets are purple to purplish red;
Mozambique Garnets are red to brownish red;
Tsavorite Garnets are bright yellowish green to intense green; and
Spessarite Garnets range from yellowish orange to reddish orange.
Garnets are historically used by travelers to protect against accidents and have also been used to navigate and protect by lighting up the night.

AMETHYST
The birthstone for the month of February
Amethyst is a very attractive member of the Quartz family. It comes in many shades of Violet and Purple to Red/Purple and can be cut in an unlimited variety of shapes and sizes. Purple has long reflected royalty & wealth. As history shows, purple can be sensuous, showy, the color of power and of power corrupted.
The word 'amethyst' means 'not drunken' or 'not to intoxicate'. Supposedly an amethyst will keep drinkers sober so matter how much alcohol they drink. Mystics often recommend the wearing of an amethyst to help treat alcoholism.
