AMETHYST
The birthstone for the month of February

Amethyst is a very attractive member of the Quartz family.  It comes in many shades of Violet and Purple to Red/Purple and can be cut in an unlimited variety of shapes and sizes.  Purple has long reflected royalty & wealth.  As history shows, purple can be sensuous, showy, the color of power and of power corrupted.

The word 'amethyst' means 'not drunken' or 'not to intoxicate'.  Supposedly an amethyst will keep drinkers sober so matter how much alcohol they drink. Mystics often recommend the wearing of an amethyst to help treat alcoholism.
